Jennifer Appelfeller is in her 18th year of teaching, and currently teaches Middle School for Lancaster City Schools General Sherman and Thomas Ewing Jr. High. I currently service all inclusion classes and 6th grade for both schools.
As an educator, I believe that all children possess individual needs and will create art in beautiful and unique ways. Each student brings their own perspective, creativity, and talent to the classroom, and it is my responsibility to honor and nurture those differences. I work diligently to differentiate my teaching, emphasizing each student's unique abilities and exceptional skills. By recognizing the diverse ways in which students express themselves artistically, I can cultivate an environment that celebrates creativity in all its forms.
My classroom is one of social collaboration, where students engage in hands-on experiences, meaningful discussions, and project-based learning. I closely assess my students' growth and learning, using data to inform and shape new lessons that reinforce the skills we are developing. This ongoing assessment allows me to respond to the needs of my students, ensuring that each lesson is relevant and impactful.
I am committed to being an advocate for change, ensuring that all students have equal opportunities in my classroom, as well as access to the supplies and materials they need to be successful artists. By fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment, I strive to empower my students, enabling them to express themselves fully and authentically through their art.
The Grant is going to help purchase adaptive tools, and supplies greatly needed to ensure the accessibility of the students I serve.
